This morning I was sitting outside on the porch eating my breakfast: the usual bread, butter and jam. It was nothing special, but I was alone with a computer and there was only the distant sounds of bird song and I enjoyed every mouthful.

However, as always, when eating there are always traces left on the paper serviette of jam, perhaps some butter. I do not bother with plates, just a layer of paper serves the purpose.

First all of the usual fly arrived, sat on a blob of jam and began to do whatever flies do. I think they absorb. I decided that the life of a fly is hard enough when they fly around in the kitchen, hunted by a wild housewife with a fly swatter in her hand, so I let him get on with it and perhaps enjoy his last supper, although it was morning. If he crossed my path later in the morning when I was cooking, there would be no holds barred, him or me and with view of our sizes, it would be him.

And then he suddenly had a colleague. He was no longer absorbing alone but had company and a somewhat larger insect arrived. He (or she) made itself comfortable and also began to absorb. At least I think it was absorbing, it is difficult to tell with the insects, but he was definitely not pretending and I could hear no munching sounds..

The fly had already moved on, he had breakfast, dinner and tea in one splodge of jam, but the new arrival had never had it so good. Thanks to the fact that he was interesting photo material I left him to his own devices. An hour later it was still sitting in the same place. Was he just pretending or was it a real feast. One thing I am sure of, I will let the insects do their thing when outside. It is their meaning of life (apart from increasing the size of the race I suppose) he was not pretending. Every absorbance was probably a matter of life or death to this insect. I wonder if he will return tomorrow.

RDP Friday: Unready

Are you ready for the sales
It is time to find your luck
Just look at this great choice
So choose what you can pluck
They are the clothes that no-one bought
But then they were too dear
They cost now just half the price
There is nothing more to fear
That short green dress, without a waist
In a colour of poison green
It would be a wonderful option
To be the carnival queen
And the trousers with the flashy pattern
With nothing that would match
But search some more amongst the tops
A red blouse is a good catch
Think of all the money you save
When all is now half price
But buying nothing is a bargain
Saving money is always nice.

Good Morning

Today has been predicted as the hottest day in the year so far which does not really surprise me. The clouds have already disappeared and I must say it is really comfortable outside on the porch, but the early morning is always cooler. I do not mind the hot weather. I am one of the lucky ones that very rarely, almost never, get sun burn and I am developing a wonderful wheelchair/scooter tan. Who  needs to go on holiday when you can get it automatically.

Mr. Swiss and I were on our way yesterday afternoon for the first time together on our scooters. It is certainly a different experience. First of all there was a discussion who goes first, but I told him to go ahead. He has a little more practice than I do up to now. I am still getting used to the ropes, although driving is no big problem. I just have to be careful when turning corners, but we eventually arrived in town when he said I should go first, as I have apparently more experience with the town. We had to get a couple of new batteries as we now have a second “open-door” remote for the garage as we do not always go together. I parked outside the store, removed my walker and did the necessary whilst Mr. Swiss waited in an alley next to the store. It is really a new experience for both of us. On the way home I had to pick up a few items from the supermarket. We parked the scooters on the bike parking place (see photo) and I actually walked into the store with Mr. Swiss using my walker. He can manage with his stick. It was like old times again when we did the shopping together. It was actually the first time that he had visited this new store near where we live and he was quite satisfied with it.

I did not have so much time for photos as I had to share my time in town with Mr. Swiss, which I was really enjoying. It is so long since we have gone together anywhere, even if it is only in a scooter and not perhaps arm in arm or even holding hands as it used to be, but we both enjoyed our gold oldie moments together. I saw these two musicians outside a store in town. They were quite good, him playing his guitar and she was singing along with him. I am still not sure if it was his wife or daughter, but I think more his wife anyhow they sounded very good and were singing in spanish.

As we left town I could not resist taking a photo of this side alley. Our town seems to be made for photos.

And now back to this morning. I had just finished my breakfast of a few slices of bread and jam I had company. first of all the fly on the left arrived and then an unknown flying object also decided to have his breakfast in the same place. Food is a common denominator amongst insects it seems so they got on like a house on fire enjoying the remains of my breakfast. That was almost an hour ago and the little guy on the right is still there. He really seems to have a sweet tooth (teeth) although I think they do not really chew anything, they just absorb. I let them stay. Perhaps I had a bad conscience after killing the many flies yesterday. Outside it does not bother me, but flies are an annoyance indoors.

Today is another scooter journey for me to get my week-end shopping. Tomorrow the stores are all closed for our national Swiss day where everyone usually has an outdoor grill evening and perhaps lets off their fireworks. This year is a little different. There are no town firework displays, blame it on the corona. Yesterday we had a new daily peak of cases, over 200, which is not so good. It really seems to be becoming a second wave of infections, although our Kanton still remains at the bottom of the list. There are talks of a perhaps new lock down.

Have a good day, make the most of it, it will soon be week-end for the non golden oldies amongst us. Every day is a week-end for us.

FOWC with Fandango: Dogma

Kanton Solothurn, Switzerland, Feldbrunnen flags

Three men met in a field
and decided to light a fire
There was plenty to drink
plenty to eat
So they celebrated to heart’s desire
One of them had an idea
“Why don’t we make a land”
The others found it was quite good
They even engaged a band
It had a very small beginning
It really was no miss
A few centuries later
Everyone was Swiss
On every 1st of August
Fires are lit on mountain tops
To celebrate the birth of Switzerland
Which became the top of the pops.

RDP Thursday: Sand Castle

Alps 05.03 (5)

If the alps were made of sand
They probably would collapse
Instead of mighty peaks
It would have a lot of gaps
Skiing would be difficult
You would sink into the sand
The St. Bernard dog could not help
You would need a human hand
If you want to build a castle
then carve it in the ice
Keep it in the refrigerator
Decorate with edelweiss.
