Yeah — they grew in my garden in San Diego — they were a beautiful pink hedge and there was one white one against the fence. They grow like crazy there — they use them on the median strips on the highway. They are poisonous. 😦

No. Nor here. My Montana grandma treated that plant at least as well as she did her kids!

The oleander leaf scorch disease has really been rough on them. It killed many that were in the medians of the freeways here. I still like them though. They seem so Californian.

I sort of wonder how the old sorts are doing at Hearst Castle. They were exemplary, with the palms and citrus. I do not know if the disease has moved into the that region.
The few oleanders we have at work are somewhat contemporary cultivars, but there is at least one that is an old cultivar with fragrant single pink flowers. I don’t know where it came from, but suspect that it was in the original landscape from 1970. I have never seen it in nurseries. The seed pods with those weird fuzzy brown seeds are not so desirable. I think a few messy seeds are worth the fragrance.

Yes, and reliable too! I grew a single white oleander as a small tree over a patio in town. It was so rad, both as a small tree from below, and as a brilliant white bloomer when seen from the windows above. Sadly, ‘gardeners’ ruined it after I moved away.

We used to have a couple growing in our garden in Adelaide. The climate suits them there and along with the Gazanias and some Dutch Iris they were the only flowers I had there.
