We even have wild ones growing in the Swiss alps. We call them alpine roses.

Retired and Enjoying Every Minute of It
I am Ahmed Abdi, a Wordpress blogger and storyteller who searches for stories that inspire people. I love writing because it’s a reflection of how I perceive the world around me. Lost in a world of endless chaos in my childhood, Unforgettable moments of tragedy and triumphs taught me the art of storytelling where I found myself through letter writing and then turned into stories but then sadly had lost everything I wrote for years. In 2018, I decided to create a Wordpress blog site that would allow me to store and retrieve every piece. Stories from my community, city and people are what make my writing so interesting and inspiring! I’m a tea lover so a cup of tea sometimes makes my blog.

I know my Alpenrosen but I’ve never thought that they could actually be azaleas….. it would be nice to know that you’re right!!!! Because then, we should also have white ones!

They are azaleas that grow wild in the alps botanically speaking

The azalea in your picture is what is known to us as a ‘florist’s azalea’. I grew only one cultivars of this group. They are spectacular in bloom, but not so well behaved in the garden. We grew those that re designed for landscape purposes. They are all rad, but the florist’s types would have been too much work for us.

I find that the azaleas bought in the store and very difficult to get to flower again.

It takes at least a year for them to recover from the synthetic environments in which they were forced into bloom. Most do not survive that long. Those that do survive are genetically weak. They are spectacular for those who do not mind giving them what they want.

As I once mentioned, the wild variety grow in our alps and are known as Alpine roses.

Azaleas from the Alps are the ancestors to some of the cultivars that were developed in Germany a very long time ago.
