I have had to overcome a lot since my MS has developed into MS. At the beginning it was a dizzy feeling and because you were never a lover of sporting activities, you were never really as fit as the others. However things progressed, and with the confirmation that I was actually not fit because it all hung together with something called MS I had to begin to take my life into my own hands. Of course I had very good support from my neurologist and doctor but there is no cure.

My first challenge was injecting every second day which serves the purpose of slowing down the progress of the illness. I had two visits from the lady that organises my medication to show me how to do it and afterwards it was I, me and myself and a “mix-jet” syringe. There was a powder medicine to screw onto the syringe which was filled with liquid (something like alcohol I suppose). You mixed it together  and eventually the injection was ready. Just stick the needle into an arm, leg, solar plexis, or stomach, alternating each time with the right side or the left side. This means that not the same part of the body is attacked each time. After three years it has become part of daily life.

Then there was the wheelchair, an electric one as I wanted to go places. The first journey on my own was in the neighbouring parts of the village, not wanting to risk too much. With time I was up the hill to the local castle and after a year I did my first trip to town which had to be overcome. Now the ice was broken and no holds barred. I was off to town on every market day, the annual trade fair, and even the cheese days when they had cows on the market place. I am probably now known as the lady in the wheelchair with the camera. Of course the camera comes with me, make the most of it I say.

Otherwise for visits to the doc in town or shopping I leave the wheelchair at home. In town where I have to walk to places, I belong to the walker brigade – the golden oldies pushing their four wheeled trollies in front of them for support. At the supermarket they supply their own trolley for the shopping and at home I have the walker, my stick and various pieces of furniture that I can hold onto for support.

The latest development can be seen above. Today the plumber arrived and converted the shower into a place where I can be safe. I now have a collapsible seat which folds into the wall when not  use, a wire basket for the soap etc. and a grip for helping to stand from the seat.

Even showering will now become an adventure. What could be better. We also have a real bathroom, but I decided to have the shower converted. It is more comfortable.

Brussel Sprout

An ode to a brussel sprout I am sure no-one has written
I know not everyone likes them and so are not so smitten
My mum always cooked them with the Sunday roasted meat
For me they were too soft and squidgy, and so I did not eat
One day I had my own family and had to cook the food
I discovered in the Winter months that brussel sprouts I should include
And so I removed outside leaves and boiled them in the water
Mr. Swiss said he did not like them, but I cooked them how I ought to
Not boiling them for half an hour was how my mum would do it
My timing was for 10 minutes applying my own true wit
Now they became a family favourite because they had a bite
It seemed my method did credit to the sprouts and I was cooking it right
A Christmas turkey must have its sprout, it belongs on the festive plate
And now the family fight for the last one, the sprout now carries its weight

Good Morning

River Aare Solothurn 19.02 (3)

I was determined to go places and see things yesterday and try out my new camera. The cleaning lady was here in the morning and there was no shopping to do so I had a more or less free afternoon. The weather is still pre-Spring although not quite t-shirt and shorter trousers, but I did not need my gloves. The sky had a few fluffy cumulus clouds and it was ideal.

Hauptgasse 19.02 (4)

I decided to enter the town with a view from the top steps of the cathedral. On the left is our best hotel which was closed last year for a complete renovation and modernisation. It is an old building and has its history, Casanova being the main historical guest a few centuries ago. When I was a working woman I often attended a few instructive courses there with various business aspects.

Landhausquai 19.02.2019

The quay next to the river was packed with people enjoying the good weather and taking a drink in the many restaurants there.

Cutting Trees 19.02 (2)

As I passed by one of our parks on the edge of town I noticed that the gardening team were busy trimming the trees for the year with their various instruments and special cranes. It certainly makes the work easier than climbing a ladder, although ladders were also being used.

The town itself had few visitors. It is the in-between season and the tourists have not yet arrived. I decided to wheel my way home in my chair along the river bank.

Swans 19.02 (2)

I met a swan family on my way. It seems that the cygnets from last year still have the brown feather coat.

I eventually arrived home and naturally spent the rest of the day uploading my 120 photos

Today is the day when my plumber has arrived and is now renewing my shower. He has fixed a nice metal soap older on the wall and is now making the first steps to attach my seat to the wall. It is looking good so far and he reckons on a 2 hour job. Of course I will be taking a few photos on the way. I had stop hugging the bed an hour earlier this morning to be able to use the shower before he arrived, so for the first time in a long while I am eating breakfast dressed in my home dress. He has now gone for his morning break and I will now be going to catch up on my daily chores. Than goodness no shopping this morning as I have postponed my supermarket visit to the afternoon.

May you all have a good day, try to relax and enjoy it, although easier said than done, I know.

Dog 19.02 (2)

I saw this dog yesterday in town asking for a photo.
