This is Waltham Abbey in England, near London with a few gilded things. Actually this gilded subject seems to be a monopoly of churches. The St. Urs cathedral in our local town of Solothurn also has some gilded ornaments.
This is the altar with its fair share of gold
And this groups of gilded figures are even kept behind locked gates.
Exquisite!!

I think it’s also a thing in European churches. Only the very biggest fanciest cathedrals in the U.S. have any kind of gilding. On the other hand, we have a lot of gilded domed government buildings … none of which i could find a picture of!

For us it’s a catholic thing. Otherwise we only have Reform church and they are definitely not into decoration

Yes, historically gold was saved for palaces and churches. Now we see the occasional gilding in private homes and public buildings. Lovely photos! Thanks for joining the challenge!

It would not be my taste. The gold probably disappears with time.

Mine, either, except maybe in very small amounts. 🙂
