Good Morning

Morning 04.09.2018

As you can see today we have a sunny day after a couple of “not knowing what we were getting for weather” days. It did not rain, but somewhere it was hovering in the background. Actually I prefer clouds, they look better on the photos, but blue skies also have their value. It is pleasant outside, perhaps a bit chilly for some, but I am immune to external weather temperatures my Mr. Swiss keeps telling me.

Swan 02.08 (2)

The swans on the local river do not seem to have a weather problem. I met this one the day before yesterday together with her partner. They always appear in pairs, and I read that swans stay together ther whole life, almost human. This was one of those photos of the moment. Generally I am too late with organising the camera for an action photo like this.

Mushroom 02.09.2018

I also saw this strange object on the river bank. When I got closer I realised it was the remains of a mega mushroom, the top half had already been devoured by some sort of animal, but the stalk remained, It is now approaching mushroom time in our area. After the summer flowers disappear the mushrooms arrive. There are all sorts, mostly poisonous, but make good photo subjects.

Today my cleaning lady is with me again. She spent the last two weeks visiting her sister in England and enjoyed it very much, meeting her nephews and nieces. She is actually from Columbia but has spent many years in Switzerland and we speak German together, my Spanish not being so good. I am very lucky to have her. She is reliable and does the job very well. When I was looking for someone I realised that there are enough people that want to clean, but not enough who do such a perfect job. I have been very lucky with Lucia and treasure her work very much.

As I was looking at my photos from the town that I took a couple of days ago, I noticed something very Alfred Hitchcock similar on this photo. It is a view of the various restaurants lining our river bank in town and on the left on the balcony there is a lady dressed in red, a mysterious figure. After zooming in I realised it was a large sized model, but suits the surroundings. Almost like something from a film shot.

And now I should be going, My No. 2 son and his wife with 1 year old son are calling past for lunch on their way to Geneva. They live near Schaffhausen, so they are crossing through Switzerland. Their target is a place called Nyon where there are various cultural sights. I have enough time, but still have to cook and although  a quick visit, I love to see how my grandson is growing. He now takes his first independent steps and will be 1 year old in a couple of days: how time flies.

And now my time is flying so have a good day everyone. I leave you with an Autumn greeeting from my garden. Yes, the sedum is flowering and making a home for the visiting bees.

  1. Sunny and hot again. Sigh. But it’s supposed to cool down — tomorrow? The next day? Sometime soon, anyway. What is so strange is that I am seeing trees changing color despite the heat. That isn’t supposed to happen.

I haven’t seen ANY swans this year. They are hiding in the rushes I suppose. Which is where they mostly live.

    • Today was a pleasant day, sunny but just the right temperature and everything went perfectly well. Cleaning lady arrived and just as she was leaving son. No. 2, wife and baby arrived. We had a perfect lunch. Grandson has now found his feet and is walking everywhere and every time he disappeared someone had to find out what he was doing. Toddlers are wonderful little people, especially if they are not yours. My son is really a perfect dad, and his wife a perfect mum of course. Autumn is beginning here, but slowly with care.
Swans are almost the only birds we see on the river now and a few gulls throwing a few appearances in the town.

  2. That lady in red was the first odd thing I noticed in the picture. I do not know why. I probably mentioned earlier that Alfred Hitchcock lived here in Scott’s Valley part time. A friend of mine drives one of his old cars.

    • I first thought itvwas a real person, but saw she would be too big. We were watching Rear Window a few days ago and it reminded me of the film. The only Hollywood personality we sometimes had visit our town was Tony Curtiss who had a friend living here. He would stay with him.
