Today I was reflecting on a year ago.
They had begun to remove the shell of the building where I lived. The outside walls were being removed piece by piece until you could see the bare bricks below. It hurt to see this happen, not only the increased noise and vibrations from the machines, but we asked why. Someone made an offer, a good offer to make a few renovations, all in the name of improvement. The insulation was not good enough, the paint was peeling and in general the building was ill. Some even said it was dying, and it was only 20 years old. How old does a building have to be before it dies. My house in working class London was built in 1884, but in 1992 it was demolished. Even Victorian buildings lived longer that our building.
There was nothing we could do, there was a vote and the mjority (the youngsters of course) said yes, it was necessary. We golden oldies found it was not really necessary and definitely not to the extent of a rebuild.
After eight months and a lot of inconvenience the builders removed their skeletal scaffolding. We had been newly insulated, thicker and better of course. We got a new coat of paint, in a very pale shade of green. We even had new blinds and a new sun blind in green of course. A thousand photos later the job was done.
After all the inconvenience of the alternations, which we are still not sure why, we have got our daily situation back. The porch has its tables and chairs again, my computer is on the table and Mr. Swiss can relax in his sun chair. We even now have modern stripy curtains on the windows, because the blinds were removed when the work was being done and we had to have something else. One of the positive effects of the rebuilding I find.
And now what about this. Our grid, our daily prompt is being demolished. There will be no noise of destruction, it will just disappear between dusk and dawn tonight and become a shell, a memory, something we all treasured and would look forward to daily. Perhaps the powers that be have something bigger and better, we will have to wait and see. I do not like this doomsday atmosphere that is arriving. First this week’s photo challenge (which is also being killed) has a title of “All-time Favourites” so how final can you get. I did not participate this week, I felt disappointed when everything is just summed up as all-time favourites, it is so final, so sad. And today daily prompt wants a retrospective. If they kept it there would be no need to look back on anything.

I realized that I’m angry about this and I finally figured out why. I sell about 6 books a month and my main custom is through WordPress and the Daily Prompt. Strange but true. So if WP wants us to have business accounts (I do have one) and they take away a marketing tool, how’s that OK? That’s messed up. 😦

The whole thing doesn’t make sense and I can understand your anger. By the way it looks like your are becoming a famous author, althugh for me you already are. When you eventually arrive in Switzerland, I will get you to sign your book for me.

This is truly both from the perspective of public relations (angry public which is not a good relationship) and as marketing (you pull away — for no real explainable reason you primary marketing tool — and you figure it’ll be okay because your marketing department said so. I don’t think it will be okay, but I’ll ride the big machine as far as it will take me. We shall see.

I am now just curious to discover what little surprises are in store for us all. I have checked and rechecked, but a real explanation that makes some sort of sense I have not found. No-one agrees to this strange idea. this is not public relations, this is pure rubbish.

I don’t think anyone who actually writes agreed with the changes in the editor either as WordPress tried to become more gadget friendly. Marketing departments should all be packed into the “B” Ark and sent off into space.

Yesterday the WordPress people wrote a blog praising various good blogs worth noticing. Blogs I have never heard of and nothing worth reading. They got a few comments to their remarks people congratulating and thanking for pointing them in this direction. Just one person offered sensible criticism. I have a strong feeling WordPress write some of the remarks themselves.

I am angry about this, too. The Old Prompts were so inspirational, we had an ability to read them and follow someone new, but now it’s all taken away and gone into eternity. How about we set up our own New Prompt, tag it and go from there?
And why, oh why do I have to enter all my info all over again when I want to just leave a little comment? Wonder who thought this all up. And what the heck is this ‘ThinkingOutLoud’ thingie? Even google is puzzled

I am also lost without my grid, but there are many new sites with organised prompts. I personally do not want to take on the responsibility. I live in Europe, am a golden oldie, and could never meet the timeline.
