As you can see it is raining again and we are actually glad. After a couple of weeks of watering the garden ourselves, the weather is now doing it for us. No more fighting to keep our lawn alive. It has also got colder, but that does not bother me so much. I prefer cooler temperatures, it is more comfortable.
Today is cleaning lady day so I am a little later on my computer. I have done my daily cleaning up session and can now take it easy.
On our way to the supermarket yesterday I had a glimpse of our house mountain, Weissenstein and now there is a crane perched at the top. They are renovating the restaurant and adding a new building. Apparently transporting the crane 1,395 meters to the top was not so easy, but now it is working. The split the crane into sections and reconstructed it again at the top.
Yesterday afternoon I had another session of physical therapy and things are going good. I have a new exercise, this time to be done in bed, which suits me. The idea is to strengthen my left leg joints. I am really making progress now and even manage free style, although the therapist said I should not do it too much as I would tire quickly. She also advised me to ask my neurologist about doing occupational therapy for my hands. I can still move them, but no longer as good as I could and they no longer have such a good feeling.
When driving the car I have to use both hands to turn the key as I no longer have so much strength in them. Otherwise for the actual driving I have no problem. I also want to talk to my neurologist about the new drug for MS and I also want to know the exact definition of my MS type. So many questions, but the more I learn about this illness the better. I know that MS destroys the top layer of the nerve, but did not realise how much can be done to improve the mobility by physical therapy which strengthens the muscle power.
The lilac opposite my garden is now flowering and is making a wonderful show. I ventured out to it with my camera, but it was so windy yesterday it was difficult to get a clear and sharp photo.
Today is a holiday in many European countries for May Day, day of the workers etc. When I was a working woman I had half a day holiday, in the afternoon. My son had to work this morning, but will be at home in the afternoon. There is no big party here, but usually in the afternoon there is a politician that has a speech somewhere, and there might be a small procession of socialists somewhere. No big deal, the main thing was that I then had an afternoon free.
It used to be the big Russian day, but I think no longer. The processions of tanks and weapons is a thing of the past and everyone likes to keep them as a secret. I saw on the TV yesterday that somewhere in the far east there is a exhibition for weapons, submarines, tanks, planes and anything you can use for a war. There were many visitors, mainly from Asia, and there were stands with various different rifles and guns you could examine and make your choice. A sort of weapon supermarket. One Asian guest said he already had a submarine and was now looking to buy two more. What a world we live in.
I am now off to prepare dinner, Mr. Swiss has gone fishing shopping and I hope you all have a good day.
Happily for us, May Day is a public holiday here too. We had freedom Day last Friday, so yesterday was a school holiday too but sadly not for us! Our next public holiday, is Youth Day on 16 June, which is a Saturday, which means I won’t have to work on that morning 🙂 That Lilac flower photo is beautiful!

May Day is no big day for us being golden oldies. We now get quite a few days, ascension Day, Corpus Christi and Whit Monday. I just have to plan shopping as the shops close.

Our shops used to close on public holidays but not any more. In the olde days, everything closed at 1pm on a Saturday until Monday morning.

Our shops are always closed on holidays, but normally they are open every day except for Sunday, morning and afternoon.

It is so nice to read your blog every morning. Due to the time difference you are up and about and have your thoughts and photos all composed and published so that when I get up at 5:30 am … it is there ready to be read. It is quite nice I must admit. Today is our big day. There will no longer be cold weather. Tonight the low will be in the 50’s (Fahrenheit …) and the highs will start to be in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s by the weekend. I have been waiting for this for WEEKS. The plants start to go out today onto the glassed-in back porch, and the vestibule which protects the front door that we had built a few years ago. After a few days of hardening to the weather, they will go out onto the front walk. Then we can begin the spring cleaning. Sorely overdue. We even got a new electric vacuum cleaner last weekend to celebrate!

I usually write at 8.00 in the morning in yeh kitchen and eat my breakfast at the same time, being careful with bread crumbs and jam on the keyboard. Otherwise I only know what I am writing when I begin, unless I have been somewhere the day before. I take photos almost daily. I put my plants out a couple of weeks ago, although I have a garden. For the first time in my life I have a cleaning lady and am so glad. Glad you like to read my blog meanderings

Ha! Gone fishing…..my husband would gladly go fishing with Mr Swiss. It is a bit too cool yet to head out, but his tackle boxes/rods/reels are cleaned, organized and ready to go.

Your photos are lovely, very colourful. Compared to a few weeks ago, when they were very grey and bleak, today looks like a real spring day!

Your patio area is lovely. And the lilacs are beautiful, Pat.

This is the front garden. We also have a garden on the other side of the appartment. I watched the lilacs growing the buds and now they are in full bloom

In a couple of weeks, I hope we are more or less where you are. What a strange year for weather. Mostly, it has been pretty cold here. Wet and cold. We’ll be glad for the water, eventually, but the cold is getting to our old bones.

We had a very warm and sunny April. Now May has arrived and we seem to be getting the Real April weather, colder and rain

That lilac is rad. I still prefer the old fashioned species (not garden varieties), but we used to grow the French hybrids at the farm years ago.

The lilac is in the neighbouring meadow. I prefer the Lakers colours.

Purple and Gold? There are no gold lilacs. My colleague who grows rhododendrons likes purple and gold colors (both yellow and orange) together because of the contrast. It is SO opposite of white.

My mistake. I wrote lighter colours and the word processor took over. We have some nice pale violet, almost pink lilacs in our area.

Oh, now that makes sense. I was wondering why you would be familiar with the basketball team of Los Angeles!
I also prefer the softer ‘lilac’ colors. Rich purple does not seem like the right color for lilac. There are plenty of other flowers that look good in rich purple.
