Good Morning

Misty Morning

No golden sun rising in the East today, just the mist rising from the River Aar down the path, but it will be another cloudless sunny day. I measure the prediction from the neighbour opposite. If she puts out her washing already in the morning, then we know a sunny day is ahead.

It’s a lazy Sunday today, but who cares. I chose a nice piece of beef for today’s lunch, one that I can stew with veg and some bones, never forget the bones, they add to the taste of the soup. The good thing is I can forget it all until lunch time a it will nicely cook for a few hours on low heat. Of course I took a few photos first of all to memorise the occasion.

The scaffolding surrounding our block is slowly becoming popular with our spider population. There are so many comfortable corners to spin a web and just hang around waiting for something to happen. I have had my eye on this one for some time. Actually I would love a photo of the perfect web, but my camera refused to focus. I now managed a photo of the lodger in the web. Mr. Swiss had a look and said that is a “Kreuzspinne”. I know what a Kreuzspinne is, they are one of those that might bite, although only when interrupted in whatever spiders do all day. I had a look in the dictionary and discovered this specimen is a garden spider in english, so nothing special.

Apparently they have a cross on their back. I was not so convinced that this was a garden spider, but who am I to know. It has been hanging around for a few weeks, but its time is now limited as the scaffolding will be removed in a week.

I persevered with the web photo and this was the best I achieved. This is a spiderless web and has been deserted for some time. Most of the insect life in the garden has now disappeared, probably incubating the next generation somewhere underground or just looking for warmer places.

I finished the new Dan Brown book “Origin” yesterday and found it to be quite an enjoyable read, but Dan Brown for me is enjoyable. His style might be losing its originality, but I do not really care. If I can entertain myself for a few days with his writing, that is OK with me. This time it was all about the origins of life and where we are going and where we have been. As usual I was already half way to the solution of the book before I finished it, I knew that it was ……. that was behind it all: not wanting to mention names, as I do not want to spoil the book for others. My bedtime was postponed a half an hour to enable me to finish the book/Kindle yesterday evening, but Mr. Swiss was even later. He was watching “Bladerunner” on the TV with a young Harrison Ford.  So he only  began to hug the bed at 2 p.m. I saw the film a few years ago, and quite liked it. What an exciting life we lead.

And now to move on to the daily events. The sun beams were playing nice tricks with my kalanchoe plants on the kitchen table yesterday, so I devoted a couple of photos to them. Leaving you with one of the results, I wish you all a nice relaxing Sunday day/night.

  1. Good Morning (or is that Morgen?) to you also! 🙂

    Lovely pics. 🙂

Have you tried spraying the webs with a fine water mist before taking a pic? A trick i have found for fine focus is to focus the camera onto something easy to fix on first then while still half holding down the button ( if your’s does that?) move to the same distance away from the object you want to take and then fully press the button. Helps if you are a good judge of distances! 🙂

My two kalanchoes have more buds than leaves at the moment – they do love the warm weather though.

I was quite amazed to hear Mr Swiss watched Blade Runner last night as i had not seen it for 20 years or more and it was on my local TV station last night so i watched it again also! I had to laugh that it is set in 2019 and they have flying cars and androids that are nearly indistinguishable from human beings and yet they don’t have simple instant spoken word language translators that companies like Google have developed now in 2017!

    love.

    • I live in Switzerland but am a Brit, so good morning is OK. I did try spraying the web, but it didn’t help. I have 2 Nikon cameras an many lens, so know about the distance and holding the button. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

Kalanchoe are perfect plants. My red one has been flowering for at least 6 months. They are easy to care for.

We have many TV stations in various languages. He was watching Blade Runner on the German station. We don’t really need translations so much, we speak a few languages between us.

  2. I use just the one camera for everything and have for six years or so now. I still have not figured out all the various setting options and only have autofocus (with choice of three options) so it can be very tricky focussing on just the right target(s) 😉 in frame. Sometimes the autofocus works best for me – sometimes the holding trick does – unless i have my glasses handy i generally don’t find out until i load them on the computer! 😉

Your right – Kalanchoes are easy care. I have just got a new baby orange one and have put it in with an old red one in a hanging basket i’ve had over 20 years.. i’ll have to post some shots soon. 🙂

    love.

    • It’s a question ofttimes for me. If I see something for an immediate shot I use autofocus. If imam using my macro lens i do it all with manual setting.

  4. All of these pictures work out better if your eyes are good enough that you can manually focus. I sometimes even forget that I CAN manually focus since my eyes aren’t all that good … but for close, fine things — and that sometimes includes flowers and macros, on a GOOD day, my macro lens will focus. On a not-so-good day, it will ignore more and refuse to focus close. Actually, my macro lenses are a pain in the butt.

    • Macro are not good to handle. There Is often too much depth of focus although I put it to a minimum and I get a sharp focus in the middle surrounded by a blur. I think my eyes are OK but when I upload I realise they are not always so focused.
