Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Letter F – Topic is Fun or Flowers

I saw this little group in front of a restaurant in the early evening.

I chose these protea as being the nearest I know to a fun flower. They look like they come from another planet, almost something from a Stephen King book. They are suddenly springing up everywhere, just like a triffid.

My frog king always has a smile on his face. I think he has fun in my garden.

Daily Prompt: Focussed for the second time

I thought you spelt “focused” with two “s” like focussed. Perhaps it has change in the last years, I am no longer as modern as I used to be. Being a 70 year old golden oldie, I get used to objects not being physically in focus. You wake up in the morning and you are looking at the world through a screen of fuzzy. As soon as I enter the normal world I grab my iPad on my bedside table. Usually Mr. Swiss has already stopped hugging his bed and reading his newspaper online to see if the world is still here. Yes, we are cyber golden oldies.

I grab the iPad and tune into my e-mails. Not that anyone actually writes me one. Today it is all done with the Facebook messenger. It is much quicker and my daily Alexander might be waiting for me. Since becoming a grandmother at the beginning of September my son keeps me informed of the progress of this new member of the Angloswiss dynasty.

My eyes have now begun to focus, although sometimes it seems there is a screen of tears covering them, and coupled with my glasses which are still bearing fingerprints from the day before, I am squinting at the iPad screen hoping to focus. The next stop is Facebook – you never know? And then onto WordPress reading comments and answering them. This is all pure action before the day actually begins. iPads are a wonderful invention. I can do it all from the bed and do not even have to rise. The actual focussing begins when I leave the bed, but I have a real concentrated action plan from the bed.

We have been concealed in plastic for two days, as our building is being painted. The final touches we hope,  before we will again  be able to lead a normal builder-free life. This afternoon I heard magic words about removing the plastic coccoon from the windows and there was suddenly a figure in front of the window, very much non-focussed. And then, lo and behold, we had touchdown.

This young man uncovered our window and said let there be light and there was light. Oh the wonders of the painters, releasing us from our out-of-focussed lives.

Of course I was impatient to tell you all about this excitement in my daily life, with illustrations. It was then I realised that my photo programme Flickr was also out of focus, since the early morning hours it seems. It was not possible to upload photos and use them from my 18,000 photos in Flickr to illustrate my great works of literature.

This time I gave up and switched off my computer(s). I had tried both my Apple computer and my Microsoft computer, but to no avail. On the other hand there is always an advantage to be found somewhere. I am reading a super book at the moment. “A Column of Fire” the third in the Kingsbridge cathederal series and was on page 850 of over 900 pages. I keep my reading for the evening otherwise I would do nothing all day except read, especially with such a super book as this is. I decided to spoil myself and focussed my attention on reading onwards, hoping to finish the book today. Of course an experienced golden oldie like myself is always focussed. I had my iPhone next to me and now and again had a look to see if Flickr had cured their problems. Bingo, after half an hour my photos were ready to be transmitted all over the world. Oh the pleasures of online life, even if it does not always work as it should.

And now with an hour’s delay I have again penned my  daily prompt. There must be more to life, but I am still searching.

Daily Prompt: Focussed for the second time

Good Morning

Same place, same time, and almost the same view, but I like to see the sun rise in the morning. It never really looks the same reflecting on the surrounding buildings and telling me my world is still more or less there. When I ventured into the garden for a closer look at the scenery, I noticed it was raining. We have not had any rain for at least a week. It was very fine, just enough to give me a wet sprinkling. The sun is shining as well, so we have multi tasking weather at the moment.

Yesterday I decided to treat myself to a potted plant in the supermarket and I knew what I wanted. I just love the kalanchoe plants. They are very reasonable in price, only about 4 Swiss Francs, one of the cheapest, and love to flower, so much so that my last kalanchoe bought in March is still flowering with its red flowers today, having made many new flower branches. I remember my first kalanchoe, it died a sorry soggy death because I killed it with kindness. It almost grew webbed feet because I gave it too much water. Since then I made myself wise and discovered they are quite happy to dry out now and again.

They are really low maintenance plants, and quite happy to do their own thing. I give mine water once a week with some fertiliser, something like orchid treatment. If the flowers die, which they do eventually, I just cut off the flower stalk and the replacement flowers are already waiting to come forth and multiply. I love these little plants, they are the hardiest I know, as long as you do not kill them with kindness. They come in various colours, but this time I chose a white one.

Meat Selection

Yesterday we were in the supermarket to stock up on food. I cook something for lunch, but the evening meal is usually cold cuts with some sort of salad with it. I leave that part of my home life to Mr. Swiss. He can let his imagination run wild arranging the plate of meat. I took a photo of the supermarket choice. I usually select what I want from the display window as I prefer to choose and not rely on what arrives in a plastic paket where you never know what you might get. The ham at the back in the middle is one of our standards. It is more or less natural and we like our ham to have some fat on the edges and I can tell the sales lady how thick to cut it. Our cat loves it but she only eats the ham with the fat and always visits us in the evening when we are eating with pleading eyes that melt your human heart. We are also salami fans, especially the hot ones like the spanish chorizo, which are just out of the picture. Our sales lady asked if I just took a photo of the meat choice. I told her it will be shown to all my blogging friends all over the world, and I hope her boss would not mind. She said not at all, it was all in the name of free advertising and gave me a smile.

Today I will be at home. There is a bathroom to clean and other little pastimes. I would so like to get out and about for some photos, During the summer I like to take early evening walks with the camera, but now the evenings get darker earlier and it is quite cold. I also do not always feel fit enough.

Enjoy the day, look after your computers. They too have feelings and notice when they are loved, so perhaps spoil them a little with a browser clean up.

In the meanwhile, Autumn is now here, so make the most of it before the winter snowstorms arrive.
