Complete this sentence: I want to learn more about …

how to complete a Swiss Income Tax Form. Mr. Swiss always does it, although he also now gives it to an accountant to do it for us as it does not get easier as time goes past. And if he finds it complicated, I find it an impossibility. Every year the same time.

On a vacation what you would require in any place that you sleep?

Our Hotel Room in Marrakesh
A real bed with a duvet and normal pillow. In Marrakesh,  Morocco they had a sort of roll for the head, which was most uncomfortable, although we were supplied with a small cushion. Otherwise the hotel was perfect.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I do not do extravagance. If I cannot afford it I do not buy it. As a golden oldie I have given up with being a follower of fashion, as the fashion that I can wear no longer exists. I have not worn a dress or skirt for many years. The only delights I treasure are a new computer, iPad or mobile phone. Unfortunately Apple have now drawn a line to my enjoyments by introducing their new iPhone 8 for ?,000 dollars, swiss francs, or pounds. One way or the other there are three zeros after the first number and it is full of stupid gimmicks which are unnecessary and unwanted. If you want the good camera on your mobile telephone you have to buy the more expensive iPhone 8X. That would be an extravagance, because I simply do not have the money to spend on such an expensive phone.

What inspired you this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I love reading, and spend most evenings reading my current book. I have my favourite authors and book series, but cannot read the same thing one after the other. I have to have a change. At last the newest book from Ken Follett in his cathedral series was published and on the same day I uploaded my copy on my Kindle “A Column of Fire”. I am not disappointed and have my nose stuck in this book every evening. I love books with good story lines and the longer the better. This one has over 900 pages. I never realised how much war and problems arose between the catholics and the protestants in the middle ages. I am slowly getting to the part where catholic France rose again the Huguenot protestants. There was much bloodshed and it particularly interests me because my ancestors on my mothers side were immigrants from France, Hugunot that fled from France to England via Germany. Our family once bore the surname of Camroux from my great grandmother.

  1. The new iPhones are expensive that is for sure. We just bought the iPhone 7 this past year. It was the first time we had to pay for our iPhones….we won’t be doing it for a few years yet.

    • I bought my iPhone 6 a few years ago. In the meanwhile Mr. Swiss has the iPhone 7 which does have a slightly better camera. I like to take photos with my mobile phone now and again as I can instantly upload them for an entry on a challenge. I could still buy the iPhone 7 when I would need a new phone, but I would love an iPhone 8, although not for the gimmicks, but the camera above all. I have looked at Samsung and Sony, but they do not do it for me. In the meanwhile I will dream on.

  2. I enjoy Ken Follet in general, but I love his cathedral series. Thanks for letting us know about the latest book. I’m going to put it on the list to read.

I do not own Apple products, although my husband does. It is frustrating that every year, no matter the brand, a newer version comes out and the better the camera or other features, the higher the price. Sigh!

My fashion statement: Timberland boots. I live in them. I didn’t even wear a dress to the last wedding I attended. I did wear nicer shoes.

    • I enjoy reading Ken Follett books and when I saw he was writing a ew book in the cathedral series I was determined to upload it on my Kindle.

I Adam quite an Apple fan and also have an Apple computer as well as a Microsoft. They are very good quality, bunt this new iPhone 8 is just a little over the top in price.

Mr. Swiss often bought Timberland. I am a Sketchers fan. I know my size and fit.

      • That’s why I love my Timberlands. I know my size and fit. 😁

As we no longer have a contract, we pay full price for phones. That triple 000 is really pricey. I’m happy with my phone, but it doesn’t have a great camera. The battery is amazing! That’s why I bought it.

  3. I bought the Pillars of the earth many many moons ago and only some months ago I finally bought the film series – played and worked out magnificently…. Should you wish to view it (3 discs), I could send them to you when I’m next in CH for a visit – they are expensive to buy but hey, I wouldn’t buy them over and over again and this way this great work would serve somebody else. Let me know. 🙂
Have a cheap smartphone and use Hero Husband’s much better phone for the occasional photo – everybody is happy that way. Wd never (be able to) pay those ridiculous sums. HH had an earlier iPhone and he had to pay dearly for everything that went pearshape (twice a new screen, lost cables etc). Now he’s happy with his Samsung and I guess my next one will be one too.

    • Thanks for the offer, but I have seen the films and prefer the books. I have read all of them. I have always had an iPhone and never had any problems. I am waiting to see no. 2 son For his opinion. He had Samsung and now had Sony.

  4. That phone is more expensive than my most expensive camera! If I were to spend that much money on anything, it wouldn’t be a phone. It would BE a camera!

They seem to expect people to keep buying new phones every six months but i think that the prices have now made that a most unrealistic expectation. I don’t know anyone who is going to pay that much for a phone. They may have finally gone over the top.

I also just got a new (not really new, but I haven’t read it) Follett book. I read a whole lot of his stuff earlier, but he got a bit depressing. I figured I’d give it another try.

    • We were checking this new Apple toy and discovered that the price for having the maximum capacity would be way over 1,000 Swiss francs. I really ask myself who could afford such a phone.
I was disappointed once with a Follett book. I cannot remember the title, it was so boring, but something from the 19th century about Russians in London and an assination. The cathedral books are really good.
