Good Morning

This just about sums up our current weather situation, grey in grey with clouds covering it all. Looks very romantic with the Jura mountains as a back drop, but after almost a week of continuous rain you do wish it would stop. At first we were happy, no need to spray the garden.

But even there the novelty wears off because everything is dripping wet. The builders have now spread a plastic over the tiles outside on the porch and that is developing into our own private little lake where the water is collecting. What do you do on a rainy day, so many possibilities, like staying inside and cleaning the place. When the cleaning is done you can play with your computer and of course read a book.

I am still ploughing through “Game of Thrones” wishing everytime I take the book into my hands, that I had never decided to read it. Last week I watched a british TV magazine programme and they were featuring the TV series about the book. They interviewed one of the main actors and asked if he had read the book. He said he decided to, to see what it was about. He began the first book, as I have, and was enthralled and captivated, could not put it down and was enjoying all 800 pages. I felt that I was missing something. I began to read this epic because it was there and everyone is talking about the TV film which is now in season 7.

I prefer books. Perhaps the TV show is really something spectacular. All I know is that the book is basically death and destruction and not very nicely done, quite brutal. If someone is in the way they are usually dealt with by sword and the descriptions are quite graphic. I will finish the book, but am not encouraged to read the others in the series. The guy that wrote it is completely take in with descriptions: everything is described to the last detail on many pages. Everyone seems to have a “bastard” somewhere from a lady that earns her money in the sex business. I really cannot understand the interest in this series. I might try one of the episodes on the TV, but it is not really my thing. I think I would even prefer Dr. Who, although the new Dr. Who is a lady, which really seems silly to me. I suppose you have to do something different to get the public interested.

In the meanwhile real life soaps are continuing and Mr. Trump and Kim are still writing new instalments daily. Even our news station no longer bothers with the updates, as they are all the same. If you throw a bomb in my garden I will throw one in yours etc. etc. and it’s still raining here.

Mr. Swiss is going shopping this morning and I am staying at home, what a great exciting morning this will become. I should really get out more, but it’s raining.

See you around later, perhaps it might stop raining. Even our street flags, remaining from our 1st August national day celebrations, are hanging and dripping.

  1. I’m with you re Game of Thrones. Ploughed through the first tome of a volume and all I got out of it was tendonitis which I called “Game of Thrones” thumb. Actually, I suppose another take-away from that tome, was that one doesn’t have to be a particularly good writer to be successful. The volumes 2 & 3 which I acquired, will be re-gifted to those who may enjoy GoT more than me. Believe it or not, some of the younger generation in my circle of friends, do like GoT.

    • I don’t see what the big fuss is about. Everyone is talking about it, although mainly the TV series. i thought the book would be more original, but it is just repetition and boring. I got suspicious when I read how Fecebook people were praising the TV series. I won’t bother with the other books. Apparently on the TV they used a special type of dog to represent the direwolves as they couldn’t find a real direwolf 🙂

      • I stopped watching GoT after the third season. My son watches it for a laugh–at the plot-holes and random new characters who show up and make no sense. He knows they’ll get killed off sooner or later. Still, there must be a solid following for the return of the series to crash our internet in Australia the first day it was released. Gives hope to all aspiring writers out there that one day…

  2. I don’t understand all the fuss about GoT either. I’ve never seen it or read the books but when I learned that it was very violent and bloody I lost interest in seeing the TV show. If I want to see violence and death I can watch the news. Sometimes the book is better than the film or TV show but in this case it sounds like not.

    • I have not seen the TV series and thought I would read the book first. Basically it is all set ina a fantasy kingdom, so you have a ruling family, although everyone wants to rule. I have more fun reading Terry Pratchett, at least I can laugh. I find it all very boring

  3. I read the first book in the series and didn’t like it, but it was quite “the thing” to read, so I lurched halfway through the second and asked myself why I was doing this? Was someone beating me? I stopped and never started again. Nor are we watching the shows. What a RELIEF.

It’s going to rain again here too. What a summer for rain! We get a day or two off and then it’s back. The world is very swampy.

    • I am now on page 500 and something of the first book and will persevere. I have now had a few peeps at some film excepts on FB and find it as ridiculous as I thought it would be, so thank goodness I am reading the book first. However, not a great work of literature, to much death and destruction and strange family conditions to keep the bloodline pure. One of the characters, I imagined to be a dark haired lady who was married/sold to a barbaric chieften. She talks of having oil put in her hair and living a tough life in the saddle. In the film she has wonderful long blond hair and looks like she comes straight from the hairdresser. I don’t think I can do it to myself watching the film.
It stopped raining today, we even saw the sun, but it has now disappeared again. It might return tomorrow. We have pools of water on the plastic layer that the workman have left us on the porch.
