Flower of the Day: 31.05.2017 Candytuft

When I saw the German name “Schleifenblumen” in the supermarket (we are in the german speaking part of Switzerland) I had to look it up in the dictionary to see the English name. It is candytuft, a plant that brought back memories from my younger days in London. My uncle had it in his garden, it grew everywhere from its seeds and made a lovely background to the garden.

  1. I was fascinated by the different descriptions in the English and German Wikipedia. One seems to suggest you’d better stay away from it, the other mentions no end of good effects on your health. πŸ™‚

  2. I often wondered why it’s called Schleifenblume…. In my younger days I was looking actively for some sort of a Schleife…. πŸ™‚
They are pretty but I haven’t seen them much anywhere but Switzerland.
