Wanting something to quench your thirst, what would you drink?

Solothurn 05.04 (27)

Basically water but I let it run from the tap for a while so that it is nice and cold. I know I should not do that, but I have to pay the bill.

Complete this sentence:  Never In My Life Have I….

done a bungy jump, climbed Mount Everest, been able to ride a two wheel bike etc. etc. This could go on forever, what a boring life I lead 🙂

If you could be given any gift what would it be?

A cure for multiple sclerosis. Every time I visit my neurologist I ask him how the research is progressing. He looks at me if I came from another planet and tells me they have not discovered any cure, although they are searching. I can put up with my injections every second day, but wouldn’t it be nice if I no longer had to do it.

What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? Do you count sheep, toss and turn, or get up and try to do something productive?

I just lay in bed, sleep eventually arrives somehow. Most nights I sleep well, but once in a while I don’t. It is never boring in bed.

What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week the builders were busy building a scaffold around our building and I was busy taking photos. I have never had so much happening on my front door with such interesting subjects for the camera.

I am looking forward to a quiet week with no excitement. Today we had our new curtains fitted.

Colour Your World: Salmon

There is salmon and salmon and I am quite partial to a piece of salmon. Although Switzerland has no surrounding sea or ocean, we still have fish, but imported. In the local supermarket we have salmon from everywhere. The smoked salmon has its origins in Scotland, Norway, and even Ireland. We even have a company near to the part of Switzerland where I live where it is smoked. The fresh salmon comes from everywhere. It seems to me the darker the colour, the better it is and more expensive, and can even go under the name of wild, although how wild can a salmon get? I notice if you get the bit nearer to the tail it has no bones, the further down and wider it gets, the bones are everywhere.

Daily Prompt: Zip it up if it works

This is a close up of the zip on my Winter jacket. We all know it, that mysterious part of the zip to your jacket when you combine the right and left half. It is then that you realise why the amish do not have zips, they do not believe in them for some strange reason and prefer to stick to their buttons and whatever.

In the name of progress, we have zips: a wonderful invention. Memories of struggling with your blue jeans, trying to bring them together. Basically it is your own fault for eating too much and denim shrinks in any case when you wash it. No problem, when it shrinks it outlines the body parts even more and if you want to look sexy, nothing could be better. It is when the zip jams and you pull out of frustration that a problem occurs. The bottom part of the zip that has already met the other half suddenly divides. Although the actual zip part is still there holding the two sides of the jeans together in one place, it no longer zips. You now have two separated parts of the jeans with a connection in the middle that is stuck. The choice is either throw away the jeans and buy a new pair, or buy a zip and spend a few hours removing the old zip and replacing it with the new zip. There is also a problem of taking the jeans off, and in frustration a pair of scissors probably help. If you compare time against money, then the new jeans are the better choice.

And now to the jacket, the protection against wind, and even rain and snow. They are so comfortable to wear, but there is a problem. You have to insert one side of the zip mechanism into the slot on the other side – what could be better. Time to go and Mr. Swiss is waiting and I am still zipping up my jacket. Of course I know how it works, but you have to find the slot and if you do not, you have a problem. Yes, it is working and so you pull up the zip to find it is only travelling on one side of the jacket and the other side is hanging wondering where the other side is. After an impatient 10 minutes for Mr. Swiss I eventually manage to find the missing link/slot and the zip is moving upwards combining the two halves of the jacket.

It seems that Jakob Ammann, the founder of the Amish community was originally Swiss from Erlenbach in Simmental and was originally an Anabaptist. A few of the Mr. Swiss ancestors were also anabaptists and they wandered off to the States it seems. They had no zips as they were not yet invented. However, Jakob Ammann had a good idea and refused to used machine made things, sticking to buttons and so the amish were a very satisfied people without zips.  They never had blocked zips or broken finger nails. Yes the Swiss are full of  good ideas.

Daily Prompt: Zip it up if it works

Good Morning

Ducks 23.04 (4)

This morning I am feeling something like a duck out of the water. Everything is a little upside down and can only get better. Today we are getting our new curtain systems, meaning the curtains that we actuallly have, and they are not very many, we had to take down, do  little bit of cobweb removal and get everything ready. We only actually have curtains in the bedrooms. However, our blinds will be removed and we decided to invest in one of those super new stripy systems with all the trimmings.  As the workers arrive already at 8.00 a.m. I had to stop hugging the sheet half an hour earlier.

Afterwards I volunteered to go shopping on my own today – with the car, yes I am becoming a real profi. Mr. Swiss will tend to the needs of the curtain workers. We know the guys as they come from the company that do our internal stuff, and it is a reliable and good company. We are now surrounded by workers and builders.

I am not here very long this morning, I have to eat my breakfast so decided I could do some multi tasking on the computer with my morning hello blog. And now I must do things and go places. The idea is to have my ablutions first of all, as when the men are fitting up new curtains in the bedroom it might be difficult to shower as our shower is attached to the bedroom and they have to cocentrate on their work and not a golden oldie.

Enjoy the day, and if survival is successful I will be back this afternoon.
