Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Looking Up at Things

Walnut 26.09.2016

This is a walnut hanging quite high on a tree. I remember this photo particularly, as it was one of the first I took with my zoom lens.

Gulls in Flight

A gull in flight taken last week on a walk along the river.

Plane 19.02 (4)

I was surprised how well I managed to get the details of this plane flying above my head. We have a small local airport nearbye.

Afternoon Sun

And this is just a little extra, as I was taking photos of the sun this week for a blog and discovered that there was something else in the photo which is either the moon (in the middle of the afternoon?) or perhaps some sort of reflection on the lens – no idea.

Alps 23.02 (10)

Let’s see if I can name them, yes definitely, the three famous peaks of the Bernese Overland in Switzerland, from left to right: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and yes I have been there and seen them. We once spent a two week summer holiday in Grindelwald and had a holiday appartment with a view on the Eiger. We could see the windows of the railway hewn into the rock, the railway that arrives at the Junfrau joch. We did the railway journey to the Jungfrau. It was a fantastic view from the top, but we were in slow motion. The air is very thin on the top of those mountains, and you easily get giddy.

For this photo I did not have to go far. I took it from the hill behind where we live. On a good clear day we have a spectacular view, but it is not always as good as this robin egg blue and yes, I once saw robin’s eggs, and they are blue.

Ducks 26.02 (3)

Sometimes I feel like a duck out of water. At least they get somewhere. I seem to take three steps forward and four backwards and it all goes in slow motion, no quicken here.

This morning there was a ring at the door. Ok, no problem, that is what doorbells are for, otherwise you would not find out why the door bell was ringing. I was at the end of breakfast, in the middle of composing an important work on my computer, and there was someone at the door. It was not the immediate door, but the door at the entrance to the appartment block.Mr. Swiss was otherwise occupied in the the bathroom, so I decided to do the honours, dressed quickly in a respectable kaften and see who it was.

It was the postman and as he only rings twice I was glad to get to the door before he rang twice. I was actually expecting him, although had forgotten he was coming in a golden oldie moment. I ordered three months supply of my medicine and it was being delivered. It is always done by special delivery as I have to keep it in a freidge until being used. I have a special fridge in the cellar. I transport it into this fridge to get it out of the way and save time which meant I had to go to the basement: no problem, we have a lift. However it became a problem when I left the life and entered the cellar. I was carrying a large box in both hands, made some sort of silly step when entering the cellar door and the world turned upside down.

I grabbed out as I was falling, but did not find anything to grab, so eventually was sitting on the cellar floor, after meeting a door and a few other objects on the way. I was still breathing, had no real injuries actually, but was a little shaken. Now the next problem arrived. I cannot get up, one of my MS problems. Once I am standing, everything is OK, but I was alone and sitting on the cold cellar floor. Mr. Swiss was in the appartment and did not even know that I was in the cellar.

I had visions of being forgotten, never being found. However, never give up. I sort of managed to half crawl to he staircase.

Yes, this staircase (the lift is next to it). I have a photo of everything. And the lift would have not been a good idea, because I would have to stand to reach the button, and I could not stand. I sat on the bottom step, hoisted myself to the next step and gripped the banister on the side. One step at a time and I was standing, really standin, what an achievement!  I was still a little shaken, but was in one piece: not even a bruise. I returned to the appartment although Mr. Swiss met me half way. we collected my medicine from the cellar floor and put it where it belonged. I am now under orders, which was more like a threat, never, ever, again to do these things on my own.

I could have knocked myself out, broken bones, and in the worst case scene, be dead, although I probably would not have noticed that one. I have decided no longer to do “quick” to quicken things up, but one step at a time.

Daily Prompt: Even quicker

Good Morning

Snowy Morning

A golden oldie priviledge is not having to do anything, because why should you. On the other hand you cannot stay in bed all day, there are things to be done and places to go, although Tuesday in not really the best day with a bathroom to clean. I decided to start the action from my pole position in bed and answer the comments that appeared during the night. It was a smooth operatrion, and I still had half an hour to hug the bed, so my decision was made.

And then the alarm sounded (bird song programmed on my various cyber devices) and it was time to rise and shine. My first action of the day, after struggling onto my feet, is open the curtains to welcome the sun. However, today was no sun, it was snowing. After a week of Spring promises, we are back to square one, although I do not think the snow will last so long. There is now a very thin layer on the grass outside.

Snow in March

It was to be expected, as we are now in the middle of our carnival programme in our area. Today is the second procession, same as the procession on Sunday, and it always rains or snows on the procession. Me? No, I stay at home or do something completely different. Carvnival is not for me, although I know a few, even some golden oldies, that still enjoy turning night into day. Mr. Swiss says because I am a Brit I do not understand the real meaning of Carnival as I did not grow up in it. He also does not partake in carnival, but he grew up surrounded by it, so something is wrong in the reasoning somewhere.

In the meanwhile I got one of those push notes on my telephone from the Swiss news. It appears today discussions are being held in our Swiss parliment about our AHV (Swiss State pension scheme) and they are talking about a 70 Swiss Franc monthly increase. Mr. Swiss said forget it, they are only talking about it, but the actual facts are still to be seen. Perhaps I should organise a golden oldie march to Bern to ensure that we get our rights. On the other hand why bother, they do what they want to do.

And now to go on a cleaning safari in the bathroom. Have fun everyone.
