Have you ever gone to a new place or tried a new experience and thought to yourself, “I’m never doing that again!” Tell us about it.
Yes, well I know, I am a succour for punishment. It must be some sort of strange longing I have. Give me a computer and a new programme and I have to try it out. I got myself an super Macbook with all the trimmings, learnt all about it and yes, I love my Mac.
Then some person in the Microsoft world decided to do something similar. Admittedly there was not a great fan club following Windows 8 and all the .1.2.3 etc.. Windows 10 was born, as we all know. Windows 9 was ignored, as many were convinced that what comes after 8 will be no good in any case, but a No. 10, that must be the best. It was even made available to download. With some it worked, with others is did not. Mr. Swiss was one of the lucky ones, on his two computers it worked. I was left out in the cold creeping along with my old Acer Windows 7 where the letters now and again did not work and a loose connection where you plug it in (my fault – I dropped it once, but it still works).
We also had a Leonovo for financial matters, working on Firefox and Windows 7. As time progressed I invested in a new Microsoft computer with all the trimmings, naturally Windows 10 already installed. Our Leonovo and my old Acer were gradually gathering dust in in a corner where the waiting list for the cemetery of aging computers existed. I had transferred my finance work, and Mr. Swiss, to other computers some time ago and then we had a brainwave. Let us spruce up the old Leonovo, give it a new life with Google Chrome and a dash of Windows 10. The process began yesterday and this morning early it was completed. Lenovo is still getting used to its new programme, but so far so good. We were sharing the Leonovo but now I told Mr. Swiss he could have it as he was inspired by this process I decided to show my old Acer how to learn the ways of Window 10, after all what did I have to lose. I had everything functioning on my Mac and new Acer, so let’s see if it works on the old one.
As you can see from the photo it sort of worked and I now have Windows 10 on my old Acer. Acer is very happy. At the same time Windows told me that my 2010 Word, Excel etc. programmes were old, out of date, not worthy of Windows 10, but for half price I could have the new programmes for a year, a special offer. Basically I do not need them, but in for a penny in for a pound as we Anglos say and so I decided to do it.
Acer is happy with his new look, tiles everywhere and very colourful. Am I happy? Basically yes, because it works, no problem, that is I am still trying to find out where my collection of addresses are in my Outlook registry. It is funny, in my new Windows 10 computer I found everything, but in the new look Acer with Windows 10 I have to search. Our computer expert told me and Mr. Swiss the last time he was here that I am the only person he knows that loves working with the tiles. Perhaps I should have been a bricklayer.
Am I saying Never Again? Of course until the next development appears on the computer horizon, Windows 12 probably as we are now leaving one out in between. But I still love my Apple above all. What am I supposed to do with 2 windows 10 computers? Mr. Swiss is now a great grandfather, perhaps his great granddaughter could have it one day.
